Optical Assembly

Before assembly begins, all mechanical components and work surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to prevent contamination. Any dust or debris present at this stage can significantly impact optical performance, especially in high-precision systems. The cleaning process typically starts with compressed air to remove loose particles. This is followed by a liquid cleaning method to eliminate residues. Care must be taken to ensure that delicate optical coatings are not damaged during this process.

Proper handling is critical throughout the assembly process. Optical components should be handled using vacuum chucks or appropriate gloves to prevent oils and contaminants from transferring from fingers onto the surfaces. During assembly, lens elements and spacers are inserted sequentially into the housing according to the optical design. Each component must be placed carefully to maintain the intended optical path and spacing.

Alignment is then performed using a laser-based setup to verify precision. By observing beam propagation and reflections, adjustments can be made to ensure correct positioning. Spacers are often used to fine-tune the distances between elements for optimal performance. Once alignment is achieved, the components are secured in place. This is typically done by tightening threaded retaining rings or, in some cases, applying optical-grade adhesives depending on the design requirements. Finally, the assembled system undergoes inspection and testing. This includes a final cleaning check and optical performance validation, such as Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) testing, to ensure the system meets the required specifications.

Silicon Micro Lens Array
We’ve produced a micro lens array using diamond turning (Nanotech 250UPL with 3 axis). The process involved slow speed servo (C-Axis) with a cycle time of 50Hrs (including roughing, semi-finish, and finish). Targeted results are Rq-10nm and surface quality 60-40, we’ve achieved results of Rq-6 to 9nm and surface quality 60-40.
Edge Blackening
- Applies light-absorbing coating to lens edges
- Prevents stray light from entering optical path
- Eliminates ghost images and lens flare
- Boosts contrast and signal-to-noise ratio
- Achieves tolerances as thin as 60 micrometers
Optics Cementing
- Bonds elements (e.g., doublets) using UV-cured or epoxy adhesives
